After starting her debut horse racing campaign with a runner-up and first place her first two career starts, trainer Tom Dabernig says that his filly Cavalry Girl will run in the Inglis Millennium at Randwick Racecourse next week.
She is currently one of the betting sites favourites for the restricted listed race. If she lives up to the odds and runs well, Dabernig says the plan is to test Cavalry Girl in Group 1 races this autumn.
Cavalry Girl set for Inglis Millennium after win at Flemington

Cavalry Girl is one of the favourites for next week’s Inglis Millennium
Highlights
- Cavalry Girl won the VRC Punters Club Sprint at Flemington on January 18.
- Dabernig has confirmed Cavalry Girl for the Inglis Millennium.
- The Blue Diamond Stakes is also an option for Cavalry Girl.
Strong start capped off at Flemington
The reason Dabernig is already talking about Group 1 races for Cavalry Girl is because of how good she has looked to start her career.
The daughter of Bivouac made her debut at Geelong on January 4 in the Geelong Diamond. She was one of the betting apps favourites, with $2.10 odds to win, and lived up to tag by finishing second place.
Cavalry Girl followed up that run with a convincing win over Dom Sutton’s Sword Of Legacy in the VRC Punters Club Sprint.
Trainer talks up horse
After her winning run at Flemington, Cavalry Girl’s trainer praised his filly and talked up her potential as a top horse to watch for the future.
“She's always been a very professional filly. She was well found by Joe O'Neill, he's a great judge and his record speaks for itself," Dabernig said.
“The first run I think we ran into a reasonably smart one in the winner of Ciaron Maher's but she did everything pretty right and then today, sort of mid-race there was a little bit of shuffling of positions and it didn't put her off her game.
“She was able to accelerate and win quite softly. I thought Linda rode her very confidently.”
Inglis Millennium confirmed
Dabernig also added in his post race comments that he sees the Inglis Millennium as an ideal race for Cavalry Girl.
“She’s pulled up well and she’s eligible for the Inglis Millennium, so we are going to go to Randwick on February 8,” Dabernig said.
The trainer then revealed that his team are thinking about the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield on February 22 if Cavalry Girl performs well in the Inglis Millennium.
“She is in the Blue Diamond as well so we've got a little bit to think about. Obviously it all depends on her and how she comes through the run,” he said.
