Jamie Kah’s domination of South Australian horse racing continued this week with another win. The 28-year-old won her first South Australian race last week at the Thomas Farms South Australian Derby. This week, she earned her second and $1,000,000 in prize money at The Goodwood on Saturday.
Kah, riding four-year-old mare Benedetta, finished first ahead of a crowded pack after deftly manoeuvring through the wider lanes down the stretch. This win was Benedetta’s first ever at Group One level.

Benedetta wins The Goodwood with jockey Jamie Kah
News Insights
- Benedetta ($6) wins The Goodwood at Morphettville.
- Kah continues her streak of South Australian wins.
- Benedetta set to race next at the Group One Stradbroke Handicap.
Benedetta’s first Group One win
Four-year-old mare Benedetta came into The Goodwood with $6 odds, making her one of the favourites, but she was still an outsider compared to Climbing Star ($5), Oscar’s Fortune ($2.20), and race favourite Amelia’s Jewel ($1.95).
Kah and Benedetta defied the odds to win The Goodwood race. The Jason Warren trained mare had never won a Group One race before, but many felt this win was a long time coming.
Benedetta has an impressive victory at the Group Two and Group Three level. She has never not placed in a Group Two, Group Three, or Listed race. Before her The Goodwood win, Benedetta had just won the Sportsbet R N Irwin Stakes at Morphettville.
Benedetta’s next race will be at the Group One Stradbroke Handicap on June 15th at Eagle Farm Racecourse in Queensland.
Kah, Warren talks up new horse
Hometown favourite jockey Jamie Kah was keen to talk to the media after the race about her big win.
“It was exactly where I wanted to be, everything just happened perfectly for us,” Kah said before talking up Benedetta.
“She’s a horse with so much talent and she’s just had things not go her way and today it was lined out perfectly for her,” she said.
Benedetta’s trainer, Jason Warren, also talked about what this race means for his horse.
“[We] just wanted to get the job done for the horse and she’s been so gallant in defeat in good races and just to get that group one under the belt is a big relief. I’m just so pleased for the horse and the connections, terrific,” he said.
Amelia’s Jewel falls short
As impressive as the victory was for Jamie Kah and Benedetta, many of the headlines are focused lower down the results table with Amelia’s Jewel. The Simon Miller-trained mare was a huge favourite with the horse racing betting sites coming into The Goodwood. She ended up not even showing.
Amelia’s Jewel finished disappointingly in 12th place. The mare similarly fell flat at last April’s The Quokka. She has not won a race since last September.

I am an avid horse racing enthusiast and punter. Growing up in Randwick, I have been surrounded by racing through stories from the elderly’s past endeavours to the racecourse and owners that are friends of the family. I am also a data-scientist and am fascinated and intrigued by the algorithmic approach to form. I’ve has become more involved with racing over the past few years due to simultaneously delving deeper into the sport and learning how to apply a data driven approach to punting. Beyond Racing, I am an avid NRL fan and MMA fan, the latter of which I have largely applied the same philosophy of methodical, data driven punting towards and found solid success in the MMA space and I continue to track and improve my strategies.
