Sydney trainer Bjorn Baker has confirmed that his three-year-old galloper Point And Shoot will take part in this year’s Group 1 Australian Guineas at Flemington Racecourse on Saturday.
The race is to reward the gelding for his efforts so far this horse racing season. Point And Shoot has started his career with a bang, winning three of his nine starts. All three of those wins have come in the 2024/25 season.
Point And Shoot to race in the Group 1 Australian Guineas at Flemington

Point And Shoot selected for Group 1 Australian Guineas
Highlights
- Point And Shoot has a 6: 3-1-2 record this season.
- Angel Capital is the current Australian Guineas favourite.
- Point And Shoot is third favourite for the $1 million race.
Baker gives confirmation
Point And Shoot’s strong start to the season means that he has a lot of options for where to race down the stretch.
There was a lot of doubt in the Flemington tips pieces about where he would race this weekend specifically. Baker finally put all the speculation to rest over the weekend.
“Point And Shoot will go to the Australian Guineas,” Baker confirmed.
“The horse seems really bright and well. I've galloped him a couple of times left-handed and been thrilled with him.”
Baker also added that jockey Damian Lane has been booked to ride Point And Shoot on Saturday in the $1 million race.
“He’s been dominant”
The betting sites currently have Point And Shoot as joint second-favourite to win the Australian Guineas with $6 chances. Baker, though, is confident his horse has a very strong chance of finishing first at Flemington on Saturday.
“He's been in dominant form over the mile,” Baker said.
“He's going to have three weeks between runs and although it is hard to weigh up the form he's going really well.”
Point And Shoot will head to Melbourne on Thursday to work with trainers Natalie Young and Trent Busuttin at Cranbourne before the big race.
Baker says this is his “normal practice” before a race like the Guineas.
“I like to keep them at home until the last minute and it is a system that has worked for us in the past,” he said.
Angel Capital the favourite
Clinton McDonald’s Angel Capital is the only horse with better odds to win the Australian Guineas than Point And Shoot. The betting apps give the Yulong-owned colt $4 chances.
Angel Capital has not raced since winning the Group 2 Autumn Stakes at Caulfield on February 8. However, he performed really well in an exhibition run at Cranbourne last week alongside his stablemate Acid Wash.
“It was fantastic work,” McDonald said about the exhibition.
“He had a nice sweat before the gallop, which I thought he would because he was up on his toes, but the work was very slick.”
