Stake of The Galaxy winner Private Harry sold to Yulong Investments

One of the brightest new names in Australian horse racing now has a new owner. Yulong Investments have purchased a 50% stake in Private Harry.

The Nathan Doyle-trained colt is undefeated this season. He has won all five of his competitive starts and recently won his first Group 1 race in The Galaxy at Rosehill Gardens last weekend.

Private Harry has also already secured a place in The Everest at Randwick Racecourse next month.

Highlights

  • Yulong reportedly paid over $15m for Private Harry.
  • Private Harry is beaten in his career.
  • Nathan Doyle is expected to stay on as Private Harry’s trainer.

Details of the deal

Neither Yulong or Private Harry’s other owners have disclosed the exact terms of the deal for the colt. However, by all accounts, Yulong paid a blockbuster price for the three-year-old.

Most reports say that Yuesheng Zhang’s organisation paid over $15 million for a 50% stake of Private Harry.

Other reports say that $15 million is just the base price. The deal reportedly contains further incentives that will be paid out if Private Harry wins more Group 1 races.

Private Harry is Everest-bound

After securing the deal for Private Harry, Yulong confirmed that they will use their slot in next month’s The Everest on the young colt.

It’s unclear whether this was a part of the negotiations for the three-year-old or if it was simply something Yulong wanted all along.

Whatever the case, Private Harry will be racing at Randwick in The Everest next month. He also will be one the favourites for the $20 million race.

The betting sites currently give Private Harry $7 odds to win. Chris Waller’s Joliestar ($6) and Hong Kong sprinter Ka Ying Rising ($2.60) are the only horses with better The Everest betting odds.

A dream horse

Yulong’s investment should not have a huge impact on Private Harry’s preparations for The Everest. Trainer Nathan Doyle is expected to remain as the colt’s trainer, which should be a huge relief for the Newcastle-based man.

Private Harry’s first Group 1 win in The Galaxy last weekend was also Doyle’s first one win. After the race, he said he was shaking from excitement and praised his promising horse.

“I dreamed of this as a kid, all I wanted to do was train horses,” Doyle said.

“To win a Group 1, with Ash, the staff, Kurrinda, it means so much. I can’t stop shaking.

“You’re still at the stables at 9 o’clock at night just checking that he’s OK. You just don’t want anything to go wrong.

“You get these opportunities with these horses, and they’re once in a lifetime. I’m just glad it’s all panned out.”

Doyle also commented on Private Harry’s future and took a dig some of The Everest favourites while doing so.

“I said we were only scratching the surface with him, and we still are…Ka Ying who?” Doyle joked, when asked about what’s next for Private Harry.

“This is where you want to be, taking on the big boys and I think he deserves his opportunity,

“So he’ll go to the TJ (TJ Smith Stakes) in a couple of weeks and I’d say he’ll be back in the paddock and hopefully go to The Everest.”
