Considering it is not currently race week, our 2026 Ranvet Stakes tips aren’t available just yet. We are waiting until race week because this is when the final field is announced and then we are able to go through all the confirmed runners and analyse their chances of success.

While we wait, let’s get stuck into some tips! Check out all our Ranvet Stakes tips for the 2025 race:

Ranvet Stakes Best Bet - Via Sistina

My 2024 Ranvet Stakes best bet, Via Sistina, lines up again in the race after winning it last year. There is absolutely no value with the mare, who is currently paying $1.35 with PlayUp. While there is no value, she is by far the best horse and takes the top spot in my tips. You’re probably better off playing the exotics in this one.

There is so much to love about Via Sistina for the Ranvet Stakes. Draws perfectly, James McDonald retains the ride from her last race where she beat home Fangirl in the Verry Elleegant Stakes. She’ll meet a similar field here that she did in that one. It’s all coming up roses for Via Sistina and it’s difficult to see anyone giving her a scare.

Ranvet Stakes Next Best - Fawkner Park

I like Fawkner Park and I’ve tipped him multiple times at OnlyRacing. He is another that comes through the Verry Elleegant Stakes, where he finished fourth, 1.6L off Via Sistina. The gelding produced the fastest last 200m of that race, which seems to show he has speed to burn and will enjoy the rise in trip from 1,600m to 2,000m.

He has a great record at the 2,000m as well, with five wins (plus a third placing) from eight attempts at the distance. At the moment, you can pick up Fawkner Park for the win with odds of $11 at PlayUp, if you’re brave enough, or $3.30 for the place, if you want to stick to straight-up bets. Tyler Schiller sticks with him and the pair have built a nice relationship.

Ranvet Stakes Best Roughie - Golden Path

It’s difficult to tip in a race that has just seven runners, especially considering place bets are only paid out to the first two runners now. However, if you’re looking for something a little different, let me lead you down the golden path with Golden Path! The 5YO holds the second-highest odds at the time of writing, at $41 with PlayUp.

Yet another that has come through the Verry Elleegant Stakes where the gelding finished sixth out of eight, but was only 2L off Via Sistina. He also has a decent record at the 2,000m, which includes two wins and a third placing as well last year. The third place was behind the likes of Eliyaas and Ceolwulf. We all know how good those two have been.

Ranvet Stakes Betting

There’s so much to discuss when it comes to the Ranvet Stakes betting! If you’ve had a quick look online, you’ll realise just how many different horse racing betting sites there are and how many markets there are to bet on. It can become confusing, to say the least! But we’ve tried to simplify it as much as we can.

One of the first things we recommend is trying several different markets on various betting apps. Trying something new means you can take advantage of the Ranvet Stakes and all the other major races that are on the same day, including none other than the Golden Slipper!

We also think it’s a good idea to have multiple bookie accounts as well. You’ve got lots of Australian betting sites to choose from and they all offer something slightly different. When it comes to betting sites bonuses, having multiple accounts means you’re ready to take advantage of any betting promotions that come your way.

Some of the bookies we like specifically for Ranvet Stakes betting include Volcanobet, TopSport and Betfocus. These three are some of the best betting apps going around and are certainly worth checking out if you haven’t already.

We provide in-depth reviews on these bookies and several other bookies. Reading our reviews will help you understand what each bookie offers and you can make a more informed choice. It’s important to bet with a reputable bookie, as this is your money we are talking about.

While those are just three examples of great bookies for betting on the Ranvet Stakes, there are plenty more that are great for horse racing betting. We’ve got a stack of bookies that we think you’ll like, so check out our “Betting Sites” section earlier on this page!

Ranvet Stakes Field

The Ranvet Stakes always sees a stellar field, filled with quality middle-distance and stayers. While we don’t know the 2026 field, we can expect more of the same. As well as this, if the odds are available, we will list them in our “Odds” section below. Checking out the odds will give you some guidance on which runners are favoured in the market.

It’s important to remember that as the final field isn’t confirmed just yet for the 2026 race, the odds will be constantly changing. Many factors go into changes in the odds, but it’s important to keep an eye on the runner you like to see what happens to their odds.

While we wait for the 2026 field to be confirmed, let’s take a look back at the 2025 Ranvet Stakes field here:

It was another small field for the 2025 Ranvet Stakes where we saw just seven runners confirmed, which is one less than in 2024. On top of this, we also saw a pre-race scratching with Zarakem not participating in the race, which resulted in the size of the field being reduced to just six runners.

Unfortunately, you’ll find that in horse racing, scratchings can happen from time to time, even in races like the Ranvet Stakes where there is $1 million in prize money up for grabs. A horse can get scratched at any time before the race, from a couple of days to just a couple of minutes before the jump. It’s important to note that if the horse you back is scratched, you will see your stake returned to your betting account.

While the barrier draw isn’t as vital in a race with a small field, it’s still another aspect that you think about when checking out the final field. Some barriers are more successful than others and particular runners have a certain racing style that suits a wider or inside barrier.

Ranvet Stakes Form Guide

Performing a deep dive into the Ranvet Stakes form guide is essential if you’re looking for patterns and stats that will help point you towards a winner. It’s true what they say, “the stats don’t lie”! This is why checking out the form guide to find key indicators is so important.

We understand you may not have the time or patience to sift through endless form guides, this is why we have done the heavy lifting for you. We’ve gone through the Ranvet Stakes form guide and found some key indicators that we think are important when it comes to making a betting decision on the race. Check out all the key form indicators here!

One of the important aspects to look for is the lead-up races. For the Ranvet Stakes, horses have many options to choose from and the common lead-up races include the Sky High Stakes, the Ajax Stakes as well as the Verry Elleegant Stakes.

You’ll find that in the past the Verry Elleegant Stakes has probably been the most popular lead-up race, with runners taking the step up from 1,600m to the 2,000m that is the Ranvet Stakes. When you look at the success of winners in the Ranvet Stakes in their lead-up race, 13 of the last 19 have finished either first or second. In 2024, winner Via Sistina contested the race first-up.

As the Ranvet Stakes is raced under weight-for-age conditions, you’ll find older runners are more successful as they have more experience under their belt. In fact, there have only been three winners of the Ranvet Stakes that have been under five years old in the past 19 years. Montefilia, a 4YO, did win the Ranvet Stakes in 2022 though!

While some races can be unkind to the favourite, this is not the case for the Ranvet Stakes! The favourite has a very good record in the race winning 12 times in the past 20 years. It is certainly worth checking out the favourite for the Ranvet Stakes, that’s for sure.

Mares don’t seem to have the best record in the Ranvet Stakes, so it could be a good option to avoid them. In the past decade or so, only four mares have gone on to win this race, which was Via Sistina (in 2024 and 2025), Montefilia, Verry Elleegant and Silent Achiever.

Ranvet Stakes Horses

We’ve gone through all the Ranvet Stakes horses that have won the race and found the best-of-the-best runners to feature in this section. There have been so many amazing winners of this race and we only have so much space in this section, meaning we’ve had to be ruthless with our decision on who makes the cut.

Check out all the Ranvet Stakes horses that we think deserve a spot on our list:

Poseidon - 1908

The Ranvet Stakes was still in its infancy when Poseidon won the race in 1908. The stallion recorded many major wins throughout his career, but the biggest of all undoubtedly was the Melbourne Cup in 1906. He also won the Victoria Derby and the Caulfield Cup throughout his time and ended with a career record of 33:19-4-3.

Peter Pan - 1935

Peter Pan’s striking chestnut colour with a blonde mane and tail makes him a memorable stallion, but he was also a very successful racehorse, winning several key races including the 1935 Ranvet Stakes. He won the Melbourne Cup on two different occasions as well as the All Aged Stakes and the Australian Derby, just to name a few!

Sky High - 1962 & 1963

Sky High was an outstanding racehorse and won many races including the Ranvet Stakes in 1962 and 1963. He had a long career and his record ended at 55:29-10-9, which included wins in the Golden Slipper, the Victoria Derby, the Champagne Stakes, the Winx Stakes and the Epsom Handicap.

Super Impose - 1991

Super Impose won eight Group 1s in his career which included the 1991 Ranvet Stakes. Throughout his career, he also won the Doncaster Mile and the Cox Plate, which helped him reach over $5 million in prize money. In 2007, Super Impose was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.

Tie The Knot - 2000 & 2001

Winning 13 Group 1s throughout his career, it was no surprise that Tie The Knot was voted Australian Champion Stayer in 2000. Over two decades later, he was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame. Some of the most notable races he won included the Verry Elleegant Stakes (on four occasions), the  Spring Champion Stakes and the Sydney Cup (on two occasions).

Avilius - 2019

Avilius ended up winning nine races in Australia, most of them with significant prize money attached to them! Along with the Ranvet Stakes, Avilius also won the Tancred Stakes and the King Charles III Stakes, all in 2019. He finished his career with almost $4 million in prize money.

Verry Elleegant - 2021

The 2020/21 Australian Racehorse of the Year, Verry Elleegant, captured the hearts of many Australians and she even has a race named after her. The Chipping Norton Stakes is now referred to as the Verry Elleegant Stakes, to honour the great mare. She won so many quality Group 1 races, but the victory most would remember would be the 2021 Melbourne Cup.

Ranvet Stakes Odds

Before you go off and finalise any bets, it’s important to check out the Ranvet Stakes odds. The odds will tell you which runners the bookies think will win the race. If the odds are really low, it might not be worth backing that runner, instead, you could try and find some more value with another horse in the race.

Most of the horse racing betting apps will release odds a month or so before race day, but our favourite bookie, PlayUp, is yet to release their odds for the 2026 Ranvet Stakes. Once we have this information we will update the table in this section.

The odds in all horse racing markets will be constantly changing and many factors go into a change in the odds. If you find your favourite runner for a price you like, we suggest getting on it while you can, or you risk the odds shortening and not getting a good price.

Also, if the market is listed as “Before Noms”, we think this is the perfect time to place your bets because if the horse you choose ends up being scratched, you will get your stake back. It’s kind of like the extra little bit of insurance you need!

Ranvet Stakes History

The 2,000m Ranvet Stakes has carried the same name for almost three decades, but the race was originally known as the Rawson Stakes. The Ranvet Stakes takes place each year during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, which just happens to be one of the best and biggest horse racing carnivals of the year.

The race was first run back in 1902 and Lady Dawson was the inaugural winner. While the race is now run at 2,000m, it wasn’t always run at this distance. The Ranvet Stakes had several distances over the years until 1979 when it was run at the current distance of 2,000m (except in 2009 when the race was run at a distance of 1,900m and at Canterbury Racecourse).

The Ranvet Stakes was a Principal race all the way up to 1980 until officials upgraded it to Group 1 status. The most successful trainer in the Ranvet Stakes has to be TJ Smith, who won the race an astonishing 12 times, while his daughter, Gai Waterhouse, has won the race seven times (so far!).

As you probably already know, the Ranvet Stakes is just one of many amazing races on the Australian calendar. We go into detail on over 100 races, so if you want to learn more about any of them, check out our Group One races list!

Ranvet Stakes Results

Let’s get into the results of the latest Ranvet Stakes now! If you want to relive all the action, we’ve got you covered as we provide a full table with the finishing order of all the runners as well as a race replay video.

In 2025, we saw Via Sistina successfully complete back-to-back victories in the Ranvet Stakes. The mare won the Ranvet Stakes as the pre-race favourite in 2024 and backed it up again in 2025 as the $1.22 favourite. She won by 1.5L to Lindermann, who finished in second and was ridden by Damian Lane.

Third place was taken out by Fawkner Park, who was 2L off the pace. However, there weren’t any third dividends paid as there were less than eight runners in the Ranvet Stakes. In the end, the Ranvet Stakes was run in a time of 2:02.45 and there was 11.2L that split the first and sixth runners across the finishing post.
