The Randwick Guineas is a Group 1 race that takes place during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival as one of the premier events. As one of the more alluring racing that takes place at Randwick Racecourse, the 2026 edition of the Randwick Guineas will boast a highly touted group of strong three-year-old runners.

In the Randwick Guineas race this year, there will be an eye-popping $1 million up for grabs, with Australia’s elite horses competing to be crowned as the 2026 champion. The Randwick Guineas is run at a distance of 1,600m on the vibrant and exciting Randwick Racecourse, one of the top tracks in the country, which races in a clockwise manner (right-handed).

As per usual, the Randwick Guineas acts as somewhat of a lead-in race for some other big-named Australian Group One races. Besides the Randwick Guineas itself, these include the Doncaster Mile and the Australian Derby. A notable feature of the Randwick Guineas is that the winner is exempt from nominations or ballots for a couple of huge races, the aforementioned Doncaster Mile and Australian Derby.

If you’ve come here for Randwick Guineas tips, then you’ll have to wait a little longer as our tips aren’t available. We are waiting until race week, when the final field has been confirmed, to provide our tips for the 2026 Randwick Guineas. When the time is right, our experts will provide three tips for the Randwick Guineas, their best bet, next best and best roughie.

Seeing that you’re already here, see which runners in the 2025 Randwick Guineas made the cut here:

Randwick Guineas Best Bet - Broadsiding

It’s difficult to see anyone other than Broadsiding winning the Randwick Guineas on Saturday, but at $1.55 with PlayUp, there isn’t a lot of value there. If you’re looking for value, I’ve got some more tips for you in this section! The colt returned from a spell in great order, winning the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes by 1L.

A lot of the runners in that one will line up again in the Randwick Guineas. We’ve seen 19 of the last 26 Randwick Guineas winners come from the Hobartville Stakes, so it’s the ideal lead-up race. Also, seven Randwick Guineas winners in the last 12 years have won their lead-up race. Broadsiding draws well and books the services of JMac.

Randwick Guineas Next Best - Swiftfalcon

Swiftfalcon is another coming through the Hobartville Stakes, where the gelding put in a great effort coming from last to finish second by 1L. Unsurprisingly, Swiftfalcon is on the second line of betting with PlayUp, at odds of $4.20. If he can settle in a little closer in this one, he’s in with a red-hot chance.

He was dragged back a little too much for my liking last time out and had to do too much in the closing stages. Draws a better barrier this time out and if he gets a little luck, he can use all his closing speed to give us all something to watch. Should see some improvement here and could turn the tables on Broadsiding.

Randwick Guineas Best Roughie - Linebacker

With a short-priced favourite, there’s a lot of value floating around elsewhere and I think Linebacker presents something worthy of a closer look. The gelding is also coming through the Hobartville Stakes, where he finished sixth, 3.3L off Broadsiding. At the moment, Linebacker is going around with odds of $9.50 with PlayUp.

Money came pouring in late for Linebacker last time out and he jumped as the second-favourite only to disappoint. Comes into this one third-up and should be all the fitter for those two runs under his belt. Gets a new jockey in the saddle with the in-form Zac Lloyd stepping up. Genuine each-way chance I reckon.

Randwick Guineas Betting

So, you now know our tips for the Randwick Guineas, but what are you going to do with them? Well, let us try to help with this too. Come race day, the biggest thing to decide will be where to place your Randwick Guineas punts.

Will you use one of the bigger and well-known bookies like Bet365 or PlayUp? Or will you opt to place your money with one of the newer Australian betting sites? Something you need to look at when choosing a bookie is their betting sites bonuses. All the best betting apps will offer some sort of promotion, you just have to know what you’re looking for!

Our suggestion would be to scour the different betting apps to find where your favourite runner has the highest odds. If you need a comprehensive list of Australian bookmakers, visit our bookmaker reviews page, or check out our “Betting Sites” section above, for more information on every single Aussie bookmaker available to you.

When it comes to Randwick Guineas betting, you’ve also got a lot of different betting options available to you. Here is a simple list of popular markets available across most horse racing betting sites for the Randwick Guineas:

  1. Fixed Win: The most popular market that can be categorised as a straight bet on a horse to win the Randwick Guineas. Some bookies offer special betting promotions on fixed odds for runners to win the race.
  2. Fixed Place: These work much the same as a fixed win bet; you place money on a fixed price market and if your horse runs 1st, 2nd or 3rd you win.
  3. Exotic Bets: These include exactas, trifectas and first fours. To simplify how these markets work, it combines your favourite runners in a single race where all money gets pooled together for the same market. If you win, you will receive a dividend of that pool based on your selections.

Randwick Guineas Field

The Randwick Guineas field hasn’t yet been announced for the race in 2026. While we don’t know which runners will take part, if history is another to go by, we will see a star-studded line up of runners. We will also list the odds for the race, when available, which will give some guidance on which runners are favoured in the market.

As the 2026 Randwick Guineas field hasn’t been announced, the odds for any potential runners will be constantly changing. Lots of factors go into fluctuations in odds, so it’s important to keep an eye on the runner you like to see what’s happening with their odds.

For the 2025 Randwick Guineas, we saw a field of nine runners announced to take part. However, we did see a pre-race scratching, with China Sea not taking part. As there were no emergencies listed, the final field size was reduced to eight.

In horse racing, you’ll see that scratchings are very commonplace, even in races where there is heaps of prize money up for grabs. Scratchings can occur at any time before the race jumps and we know just how annoying it can be to see the horse you bet on being scratched. But you will get your stake back, so you live to fight another day!

When you’re looking at the final field, you should also take notice of the barrier each runner is jumping from. While the barrier draw isn’t as critical in races with a small field, some barriers have more success than others and it’s important to understand which ones they are.

Randwick Guineas Form Guide

If you are serious about finding a winner come this Randwick Guineas day, then you need to understand what the key form indicators are and how they will influence the race. With a race that has been running for as long as the Randwick Guineas has, you’ve got lots of data to sift through.

Looking at the Randwick Guineas form guide will ensure you base your betting decisions based on facts. While going through pages upon pages of data may not sound like a fun time to you, it does to us! We’ve put in the leg work and found some interesting patterns that will help you with your betting decisions. Check out the key form indicators below for the Randwick Guineas!

First things first, let’s take a look at the best form lines to follow. The best lead-up race in recent decades has been the Hobartville Stakes. We’ve seen 20 of the last 27 Randwick Guineas winners come from the Hobartville Stakes and one of the most notable winners include The Autumn Sun. In 2024, winner Celestial Legend won the Hobartville Stakes in his previous start.

Fillies don’t seem to have a good record in the Randwick Guineas, only one filly has won the race since 2003, which was Mosheen in 2012. Also, you’re looking for a runner that is in form. A total of seven winners in the last 13 years have won their lead-up race. In fact, only six Randwick Guineas winners have run worse than fourth in the last Group race since 2005.

If you’re looking to simply back the favourite in the Randwick Guineas, you should know that they only have a fair record. While the favourite might not always win, you’ll see that most of the time, winners are in single-digit odds. Although Communist bucked this trend in 2023, winning the Randwick Guineas with odds of $16.

Randwick Guineas Horses

Some of the best horses in Australian history have competed and won the Randwick Guineas. This section is dedicated to them! We’ve narrowed it down to the best five Randwick Guineas horses to ever win the race. We know there are many, many more that could have made this list, but these are the five we are going with!

Let’s check out some details about five of the best Randwick Guineas horses to ever win the race:

Todman - 1957

Todman won the Randwick Guineas back in 1957 when the race was called the Canterbury Guineas. He had an excellent career record of 12:10-1-0, making him a great investment for punters. Todman’s most notable win was probably the Golden Slipper, which he also won in 1957. He also has a Group 2 race named after him, the Todman Stakes, raced at Randwick Racecourse.

Octagonal - 1996

Also known as “The Big O”, Octagonal won the Randwick Guineas in 1996. He won many awards throughout his career including; the Australian Champion Two-Year-Old in 1995, the

Australian Champion Three-Year-Old in 1996 as well as the Australian Horse of the Year also in 1996. In 1995, Octagonal also won the Cox Plate, which was probably his most notable win.

Weekend Hussler - 2008

Weekend Hussler ended his career with a record of 21:12-1-0, one of which was the 2008 Randwick Guineas. In total the gelding amassed a career prize money of over $3 million, and in 2008 he was named Australian Champion Racehorse of the Year. Other notable races that Weekend Hussler won included the Caulfield Guineas, the Newmarket Handicap, the Memsie Stakes along with the Underwood Stakes.

It's A Dundeel - 2013

It’s A Dundeel had a stellar career which included several Group 1 wins. He also won a few awards as well, including the 2014 New Zealand Champion Racehorse of the Year and the 2014 Australian Champion Middle Distance Racehorse. Along with the Randwick Guineas, It’s A Dundeel also won the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, the Spring Champion Stakes and the Australian Derby, just to name a few.

The Autumn Sun - 2019

The Autumn Sun may have only raced on nine occasions, but he won eight of them and in the other race he finished third! The Chris Waller-trained colt won the Randwick Guineas in 2019 and he also won other races like the Golden Rose Stakes and the Rosehill Guineas. In the end, his prize money topped approximately $3.5 million!

Randwick Guineas Odds

Knowing the Randwick Guineas odds is important before you go placing any bets. Different horse racing betting apps will sometimes offer different odds for the same runner, so it certainly does pay to shop around!

You may have already seen that the odds in horse racing markets are constantly changing and many things impact changes in the odds. Our favourite bookie, PlayUp, hasn’t yet released its markets for the race, but when its market is live, we will have all the information here in this section.

You’ll see the odds for all the runners constantly changing as more information comes to light if they are targeting the Randwick Guineas or not. Make sure you look into what stage the market is in, if it says “Before Noms” that’s a good time to place your bets because if your chosen runner doesn’t make the final field, you’ll get your cash back!

If you choose to bet when the market is “All-In”, that’s fine but just remember that you won’t get your stake back if your horse isn’t in the final field. There are positives and negatives attached to both, so do whatever suits you the most.

We’ll provide the 2026 Randwick Guineas odds once available. Until then check out all the 2025 odds here:

Randwick Guineas History

The Randwick Guineas, one of Australia’s premier three-year-old Group 1 races, has called Randwick Racecourse its home since 2006. Whilst this may be one of the shorter histories for such a notable Australian Group 1 race, we assure you that when you look further back to the Canterbury Guineas days, there are a host of memorable moments that build the tapestry of the Randwick Guineas’ history.

First run in 1935 as the Canterbury Guineas, the now Randwick Guineas saw its first winner in Hadrian. Since then, some of Australia’s biggest, best and brightest have fought it out to claim the Randwick Guineas crown.

Since being moved from Canterbury Racecourse for the 2006 Randwick Guineas, the race has been a key part of Sydney’s Autumn Racing Carnival (one of the biggest horse racing carnivals in Australia), making up one-third of Sydney racing’s triple crown. Winning the triple crown is something that several horses aim to achieve.

The triple crown is the highest of honours a horse can win in Sydney. With the Randwick Guineas making up part of this feat, some of the best horses in the country have their eyes on the prize from the start of the season.

The other races that make up Sydney’s racing triple crown alongside the Randwick Guineas are the Rosehill Guineas (run at a 2,000m distance) and the Australian Derby (a 2,400m spectacle). Incredibly, five horses have been able to claim the Sydney racing triple crown in its almost 100-year history. These horses are:

  • Moorland in 1943
  • Martello Towers in 1959
  • Imagele in 1973
  • Octagonal in 1996
  • It’s A Dundeel in 2013

Since It’s A Dundeel won the Randwick Guineas and completed the Sydney racing triple crown in 2013, only one horse has even won two of the events, which was The Autumn Sun in 2019. Overall, the Randwick Guineas owes much of its history to the Canterbury Guineas at Canterbury Racecourse which came before.

However, since its first race at Randwick Racecourse in 2006, the Randwick Guineas has created a legacy of its own, thanks in large part to the location change, now situated at the premier thoroughbred racing venue in New South Wales. We can’t wait to see many more epic races in the Randwick Guineas.

As you may have already gathered, the Randwick Guineas is only one race in a calendar that is jam-packed full of other Group 1 and feature races. Why don’t you head on over to our page that has a Group One races list to see all the other races we cover?

Randwick Guineas Results

Here at OnlyRacing, we provide the results of the latest running, which include a table with the finishing position of every runner along with a video replay, so you can relive the action over and over again.

For the 2025 Randwick Guineas, we saw the $1.60 heavy favourite, Broadsiding, get rolled by Linebacker, a $9.00 chance. Linebacker beat Broadsiding by 0.5L after a great steer from Zac Lloyd and the 3YO broke through to win his first Group 1 race.

Swiftfalcon rounded out the final minor placing and was paying $5.00 at the race jump, finishing 0.8L off the lead. In the end, the 2025 Randwick Guineas was run in a time of 1:33.64 and there was a total of 12.8L that split the first and last runners across the finishing line.
